Neko Case, kd lang, Laura Veirs – case/lang/veirs, review: ‘they all get to shine’
June 17, 2016 - Supermoon
The duets manuscript is mostly a asocial practice that feels like a song attention homogeneous of an organised marriage. So how about a threesome?
A mutual indebtedness between Neko Case, kd lang and Laura Veirs has resulted in a stately collaborative record that plays to any of their strengths. Case is a high songwriter who specialises in country-tinged, distressing choruses, while Veirs brings her indie-folk attract and lang’s hazed voice lends this plan a hold of class.
Perhaps a contingent are overly respectful in pity out lead vocals – there’s no conflict of egos in this supergroup – though during slightest they all get to shine.
1,000 Miles Away is lang during her many languorous; Best Kept Secret is a jangly pleasure from Veirs; and Case is simply stately on Down, Supermoon and Atomic Number. Gorgeous harmonies, too.
